Why aren’t we ministering?
Why is it most of us believe that the guy/girl that has Rev. in front of their name or the person who works as a missionary/full-time minister are the ones who “minister”?
I am sure that one reason is because we were taught that by other ministers. Think about it…many/mostchurches teach that only the pastor or an ordained person can baptize someone. That’s not in the scripture. Often times only pastors/the ordained administer Communion…again, not in the Scripture. The list goes on.
I also see that it is an easy way out…a cop out. We’re just too lazy, too comfortable, too afraid, and too selfish. We’ve forgotten that it really isn’t about us…it (life) really is about Christ and sharing Him with those we encounter.
Maybe another reason is because we’re ignorant…we simply don’t know. We don’t study and meditate on the Scripture. We believe ministering is equated with doing. I would argue that ministering is far more about being. “Ministering” is simply living life as a believer! Living, loving, abiding…refusing to live by any other standard other than that laid out by the Scriptures! Refusing to compromise or water down what we hear from God…
Please tell me what you think. I am always looking to grow…
Dude, I think you’re right on. I was listening to a discussion last night about the state of the universe. One of those, “Why doesn’t the government help?” conversations. I kept thinking, “It’s not the gov’t’s job to help anyone, it’s the church’s job.”
Then, I read a blog today about what the church is – http://theschoolofchrist.org/articles/building.html – read it and let me know what you think. It was a long article, but there is a paragraph about half way through that is worth the read.
