How did I get here?

I have asked myself this very question a time or two.  I remember on more than one occasion driving in my car and suddenly realizing that I was not where I was supposed to be.  This happened to me once in Atlanta.  I was entering I 75 (btw I grew up in Atlanta) on my way to an appointment and began to drive.  I drove for about 45 minutes and suddenly realized I was in Macon, GA.  I started out about 20-30 min.s south of Atl and now I was almost 1 and a half hours away.  Aaaahhhh!  I began to ask myself…how did this happen?  How did I get here?  The answer was simple….I drove there.  I went south when I should have gone north.  I made a very bad choice…I didn’t pay attention to the signs and landmarks.  I literally went the wrong way.

I believe this is the answer to the same question when applied to spiritual places or emotional places.  I have been dealing with a situation at work over the last fewweeks…a leader/pastorin our organization who made a very bad choice.  He chose to have sex with a woman who was not his wife.  While dealing with the issue someone asked me “how could this happen?”  The answer really is quite simple…He chose to go there.  He “steered his car” south when he needed to go north.  He never allowed others to hold him accountable…he made several other choices that lead to where he is now.

Yes, we all experiences some situations that are completely out of our control…yet, even then, our response is still our choice…

I am not pointing fingers…we have all made bad choices.  My point in all of this is that we as believers and followers of Christ have a choice to make each and every day.  Choose Christ and choose life…choose the desires of our flesh and choose death.  Don’t be surprised when you end up in a place you’ve been heading towards.  Allow others to truly hold you accountable.  Choose to be holy…Christ will equip you as a saint…abide in Him!

The truly awesome message today is that God, no matter what direction you have chosen, is a God of forgiveness, reconciliation and restoration.  Yes, there are always consequences to our choices…however, God will give you the strength, wisdom and patience to endure the consequences and even grow from them…
